The beach resorts in Argentina can get overcrowded and expensive during the peak season. Yet, there are some places where you can enjoy the summer at the coast without having to fight for space at the beach. Right at the bottom of Buenos Aires province you’ll find the charming beach resort Monte Hermoso. This little beach resort is a further away than most tourists from Argentina are willing to travel, so it doesn’t get so busy and prices are competitive.
The best thing about Monte Hermoso is the geographical location. That may not sound like a must-see reason to go, but the positon of this resort means that here you can witness the sunrise and sunset. There is nothing better to complete a relaxing or romantic holiday than with twice daily sun shows that will leave your camera memory filled with sunrise shots.
Monte Hermoso boasts a yellow sand beach that stretches for 32km. The beach is well maintained and safe for children under supervision. There are also some beautiful sand dunes that have formed just up from the coast that are wonderful to explore and take a hike. The combination of the dunes and the flow of the Sauce Grande River have formed the freshwater Sauce Grande Lagoon: a perfect place for bathing. This impressive lagoon covers 2900 hectares and is just 10km from the Monte Hermoso town centre. Visitors here could even hike from Monte Hermoso to the Sauce Grande Lagoon.
Apart from the natural beauty attractions in Monte Hermoso, the local town also has something to offer tourists. There is a wide range of activities to do all year round in Monte Hermoso, but things really pick up during the summer months. Every night during the high season there is a live show for all the family in the Jorge Pedro Chiaradia amphitheatre. The type of entertainment varies from live music to circus acts that the kids will love. Another must-see attraction is the La Paleta Loca café where they make great churros, a typical Argentine fried sweet that is filled with dulce de leche (caramel), quince jam and chocolate. We’d recommend travel to Monte Hermoso to couples or families with young children as this beautiful place is quite quiet and perfect for relaxation.
