Characterized by the exciting and cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, the laid-back university town of Cordoba, the popular beach destination Mar del Plata, and the beautiful historical town of Rosario, the Central region of Argentina is not to be missed. Lucky for most, international flights fly into Buenos Aires, making the Central a great starting point for your travels in Argentina.
This region of Argentina known as the Pampas is one of the most thriving and productive areas in the country partly due to the Pampas plains, home to Argentina’s booming farming industry where agricultural business thrives both in the south pampas and west of Buenos Aires, and partly due to the capital city of Buenos Aires, being the economic and commercial centre of Argentina and the main port of the country.
The climate in this region is fairly stable, receiving consistent rainfall during the year, keeping the soil of the plains fertile for farming, and spring and summers bring plenty of warmth and sun. Winters can be a little chilly, especially on the flattest and driest plains, however snow is rare, and often winter passes by after a couple months.
The Pampas region in Argentina includes a myriad of beautiful colonial towns, interesting cities, and gorgeous and diverse landscape, all located in the Buenos Aires and Cordoba provinces, only 2 of the 26 provinces that make up the whole of the country.
Buenos Aires
The pulsing heart of the country, this capital city of 13 million offers avenues lined with European architecture, world famous restaurants, nightclubs, museums, parks, shopping, tango shows, and much more. This city, once the arrival point for all landing immigrants, has an incredibly diverse culture and a combination of traditions, making the people, the language, and the customs unique from the rest of South America. Around Buenos Aires are a dozen worth visiting towns and areas, perfect for day trips out of the capital or quiet weekends away.
Cordoba
The more mountainous province of Cordoba is an assortment of green hills and rolling landscapes that meet with the plains of the Pampas at particular points. The university town of Cordoba is a combination of modern mixed with tradition and offers both a deep cultural feel along with an industrialized economy. The area surrounding includes small colonial towns, artificial lakes and dams, and gorgeous landscapes waiting to be discovered.
Mar del Plata
Reaching down through the province of Buenos Aires, the kilometres of beach lined coast, rugged dunes, and thick urban forest, takes you past many quaint beach towns to the ever popular city of Mar de Plata. This city, known for its herds of beachgoers in the summer months, boasts fantastic resorts, restaurants, clubs, and shopping centres. The incredible landscapes around the city makes adventure sports such as dune-bugging, windsurfing, and horseback riding popular among Argentines and foreigner’s alike.
Rosario
On the border of the Buenos Aires and Entre Rios provinces, the city of Rosario is known for its cultural beauty, quiet and tranquil streets, and kind beautiful people. Located only a few hours from Buenos Aires, the city of great escape offers art galleries, museums, and plenty of music related events throughout the year. Surrounded by rivers, this area promote sports fishing and other related activities, however, if that is not quite for you, the plentiful cotton and citrus fruit plantations alongside a sub-tropical forest offer plenty of tourist activites.
