Carhué, Buenos Aires

Carhué is one of the lesser-known tourist destinations in the province of Buenos Aires, but it still one of the best-hidden gems in the province. Situated in the western part of Buenos Aires, it has the advantage of a prime location: sitting right on Lago Epecuén, known worldwide for the unique properties of its waters. The city is chock full of opportunities to enjoy the open air, with parks, plazas and pathways, proudly boasting its best quality: nature and the climate.

While the city isn’t well known among the average tourist circuits, Carhué is considered one of the top therapeutic destinations, due to the giant thermal complex there, which is also outfitted with all the commodities and services any tourists would want. The thermal pools are fed by the Lago Epecuén, and the water has been said to treat arthritis, psoriasis, and more. The waters are filled with many different healing minerals, which makes them ideal for people with any one of a number of problems, including respiratory and digestive troubles, as well as skin and aesthetic ailments.

These thermal baths can be found in several hotels, as well as at the lake itself. Covered pools, hot tubs, immersions baths, mud therapy, massages, kinesiotherapy, exercise and cosmetology, these baths and the spas built around them have it all. Spa Epecuén is perhaps the most complete complex, offering a variety of services.

In addition to the services and treatments you can receive here, you can also buy a variety of products made from the healing mud and waters of the lake. From cleansing creams to soaps, lotions, and masks, you can find a product for everything, produced by local artisans.

Aside from the relaxing spa days you can have in Carhué, there is also fun for the entire family here. The beaches of the lake are a great place to pass the day, enjoying the natural air and the salty waters in a more recreational manner.

Every year, the city transforms into a stage for the two major festivals: Epecuén Rock, and El País Canta en Carhué. These music festivals bring in fans from all over, coming to watch national artists from a variety of styles perform their best-known hits.

Carhué has also earned recognition for its Olympic Triathlon, which is a competition of 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of biking, and 10 kilometers of running. Athletes compete across many different categories, and come from various parts of the world to compete.

The city is 500 kilometers to the east of Buenos Aires, and can be reached by bus or car, along RP 60. For more information about relaxing destinations in Argentina, see this Argentina Travel Guide.

There is plenty of accommodation in Carhué, most of which is directed towards those who come to relax and enjoy the rejuvenating assets of the town. There is also plenty of delicious and traditional cuisine.
