Villa Traful is one of the most outdoor activity focused towns in all of Argentina travel, and for good reason: This beautiful little mountain resort is situated in the gorgeous National Nahuel Huapi Park, also the mountainous region of the Lake District in Argentina, among hills, mountains, forest, and lakes, and offers a myriad of unique and unforgettable outdoor adventures all year round.

This area sees a wide range of climates during the year; summer is warm and sunny, with an average temperature of 17-27C.  Spring and fall bring cooler winds, rain fall, and are mostly short and sweet, with an average temperature of 15-21C.  Winters are a bit of a different story, when temperatures sometimes fall below zero at higher elevations, and snowfall is seen, and the mountain peaks are always frosty.  During the rain and snow seasons, travelers in the area must be careful of driving conditions; heavy rainfalls may cause the gravel roads to become unpredictable and heavy snowfall and cold weather can put a thick layer of ice on the ground.

Villa Traful is a spectacular town to visit; nestled on a uniquely leveled hill, the tiny resort town has an incredible view of the area, including the surrounding mountains and hills, and Lake Traful, just down below.  The town is lined with quaint shops, hotels, and wooden cabins, some fantastic restaurants, as well as a few great tourism offices that book guided tours in the area.  Lake Traful is a major attraction, boasting crystal clear waters (no pollution), beaches of sand and rock, as well as plenty of small rivers running from the lake into the woods, outfitted with walking trails.  The town is a great place for visitors to come, relax, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere along with the many unique outdoor activities offered.

Villa Traful, located in the National Huapi Nahuel Park, is nationally protected and follows certain and strict guidelines in protecting the area, the surrounding lakes and rivers, and taking every precaution to avoid environmental pollution.

One of the major activities to be enjoyed in the area is fishing, specifically the salmon fish; Lake Traful works as the perfect fishing spot for locals and visitors, offering clean and natural waters, adjoining rivers, a range of diverse fish, and plenty of spots to sit quietly on the water or shore while fishing and enjoying the surroundings.

A few other popular activities are hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. There are a wide range of trails around the area, catered to different abilities, and guided tours or maps can be found at local tourism agencies. During the winter months, depending on the snow, hiking and horseback riding can still be enjoyed but be sure to first speak with one of the local travel agencies in the town about the conditions and the possibility of a guided hike.

Since Villa Traful is only about 80km from Bariloche and makes for a great weekend or week long trip, depending on your vacation or traveling style, and certainly offers up an incredible experience of the Argentine outdoors as well as peaceful and relaxing getaway.
