The gorgeous town of Cachi is located in the Chalchaqui Valley, at the foot of the Nevado de Cachi in the province of Salta, sits more than 2280m above sea level, and offers visitors a quiet, laid-back, and beautiful city setting that will not be soon forgotten.  A few hours from both Salta and Cafayate, Cachi makes for an easy day trip or overnight stay with a handful of wonderful activities, making Cachi definitely worth the visit.

One of the most fantastic aspects of Cachi is getting there. You can arrive at Cachi from either Cafayate (165km), with your own form of transportation as there are no buses, or from Salta with a bus or your own form of transportation. From Cafayate, you travel through the gorgeous Valles Calchaquies, a series of beautiful valley landscapes with an assortment of gorgeous vegetation and wildlife.  From Salta, you can venture through the Los Cardones national park, which is characterized by its unique desert like land and wide open areas.

Cachi is as picturesque as they come in the Salta province, distinguished by small white buildings, cobblestoned roads, a centre plaza, quaint restaurants, and a cozy and welcoming vibe in the streets. You can visit the local museum or local shops to discover the history of Cachi and its region, local textiles, and other indigenous arts and crafts, very specific to the area.  The locals are friendly and laidback, chatting with one another in the streets, enjoying mate in the plaza, welcoming in visitors, and enjoying their peaceful settings.  Cachi is also beautiful at night, as its high altitude and minimal city lights give you a fantastic sky and star view perfect to be enjoyed with the local cuisine and wine from the area.

This diverse region has both warm and cold seasons, neither being particularly extreme but both showing distinct temperatures. In the summer seasons, the climate ranges from 15degreesC – 28degreesC with plenty of sun and a warm breeze flowing through the valley, cooling off at night. During the winter the temperature ranges between 1degreeC – 19degreesC, with cool days and even cooler nights, however, no snowfall.

The small town of Cachi is truly worth the visit and a fantastic in between point when traveling from Salta down through Cafayate or Tucuman, or vice versa, as both arriving and exiting offer visitors spectacular sights, unique to the province of Salta. After you have discovered the beauty of Cachi, go on to discover its neighbouring attractions such as Cafayate, the Quebrada de Cafayate, Los Cardones national park, and the city of Salta.
