Termas de Rio Hondo

In the province of Santiago de Estero is the beautiful and relaxing town of Rio Hondo, better known as Termas de Rio Hondo. One of the most popular Argentine destinations during the months from April to October, Rio Hondo knows how to truly deliver a fantastic vacation atmosphere and will leave any vacationer asking for more.

This area in Santiago del Estero is considered subtropical and sees temperatures in the summer of around 38 C and in the winter a mild 15 C. During the fall and spring the climate is at its most desirable making Rio Hondo´s high season between the months of April and October.  It is important to note that during the summer months the town´s hotels and tourist attractions mostly shut down due to the high summer temperatures and it is not advisable to visit during this time.

The small relaxing town of Rio Hondo, home to about 27,000 inhabitants, has found fame in Argentina due to its thermal springs and national recognition of being the number one thermal spring location in all of Argentina. It is located on the back of the Rio Dulce (sweet river) only 76 km from the province´s capital city, Santiago del Estero.  The city is sitting on hundred´s of unground sheets of water that are composed of many different minerals and salts, known to all be cleansing, relaxing and some of the most therapeutic ingrediants to nurish the human body. People come from all over Argentina to visit these thermal springs during the winter months, to relax, and to better their health with the help of the springs, spas, hotels, and health stores located throughout the town. There are hundreds of hotels throughout the town and almost all, even the most budget of accomodations, offer thermal springs.

If you have had enough of the thermal springs at any time, near the town is also the popular Lago Embalse Frontal Dam, which offers the opportunidad to enjoy various water sports such as swimming, fishing, boating, skiing, and more.  In this area, visitors can also play golf at the local golf course, go horseback riding in the region, or enjoy tours of agro-tourism.
