As you well know, Argentina is a land full of lush, diverse landscapes. What better backdrop could you ask for for exciting, interesting, beautiful golf courses?

Golf has grown increasingly popular in Argentina, especially with the rise in tourism. Traditionally set in naturally beautiful areas, it is no surprise that there are dozens and dozens of courses all over this large South American country. It is a perfect way to spend the day, and a great way to connect with others, be it traveling companions or locals.

No matter what city you’re visiting while travel in Argentina, you will undoubtedly have a selection of courses to choose from. There are a variety of course types, and many are “American style”, with numerous traps and obstacles. What you will be guaranteed, however, is that the courses will be surrounded by unique, breathtaking landscapes, often framed by rivers or set against sparkling lakes or beautifully manicured gardens. 18-hole courses are popular, but there are also many 9-hole courses that can be played twice for a full game.

With more golf courses than any other South American country, it is easy to see that the sport has a long history in Argentina. As it is a country of immigrants, it got an early introduction to the sport from European immigrants in the late 1800s. Since then, millions of dollars have been invested in the growth of this sport and some of the more challenging courses in the world.

When traveling to Argentina, it is important to remember that the seasons in the Southern hemisphere are opposite of those in Europe or North America. As an avid golfer, this can only play in your favor, because while your favorite course at home is rained (or snowed) out, there are dozens of new courses just basking in the sun in Argentina, waiting for you to discover them. See this Argentina Travel Guide for more basic Argentina travel tips.

Most travelers find the best way to enjoy the sport in Argentina is by combining it with a healthy dose of sightseeing. Basically whichever destination you’re already planning on visiting will have a good course, but it may also be useful to take both golf and sightseeing equally into consideration while planning.

Buenos Aires is a great golf destination, and, as you may have guessed, will provide hours of entertainment off the course, as well. No matter which area you’re staying in, there is bound to be a great course nearby. Lagos de Palermo is one of the most popular clubs, and Nordelta, in Tigre, is a great course set in a wonderful little town, north of the city.

Iguazú Falls and Tierra del Fuego, set at opposite ends of the country, are both popular destinations in their own right, but they, too, can offer great tee off opportunities. Finally, Bariloche will draw you in with both its courses and its majestic scenery. In fact, you may have a hard time pulling yourself away from Patagonia, in general.

Golf continues to gain popularity in Argentina, so be sure to stay on the look out for beautiful, challenging new courses. And with some companies offering golf tours around the country, you’re sure to see the nation in a unique light, enjoying yourself one hole at a time.
